Lila Turjanski-Villard

Artist Bio

Lila Turjanski-Villard was born in Argentina, where she studied clay sculpture in private studios for more than ten years.  Once living in the US, she took classes in contemporary sculpture at the Westchester Art Workshop that motivated her exploration of new materials. In 2005, continuing her creative journey, she started to develop the current technique in which she uses different materials to create mixed media sculptures. Currently, her work is exhibited at art galleries and juried art shows across the Northeast.

Lila’s educational background includes a degree in Psychology from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and a Masters Degree in Management of Nonprofit Organizations from New York University. Lila lives in Yorktown Heights, NY with her husband and their two children.

Artist Statement

Sculpture and dance have been two passions in my life since I was a kid. The themes of movement, space and communication are constantly present in my artwork. I like to explore the suggestions of bodies in communication, in movement, and in rhythm with space.
I enjoy working with a technique that I have developed over time in which I use different materials including a metal armature and paper. I found this technique to be a good vehicle to express my themes.
The completion of the piece is in the interpretation of the viewer once it becomes independent of my creative process.
