Growing up as the daughter of a wedding dress seamstress and granddaughter of a milliner, I was always surrounded by creativity. Whether it was new Easter outfits and hats or Christmas coats, there was always fabric and patterns. For years, my mother tried to teach me to sew, but I could never get the hang of it. About 20 years ago a girlfriend encouraged me to join her and a few friends to quilt. Although a little leery, I decided to give it a try. The rest, as they say, “is history”. In addition to independent quilting, I also collaborate with four other amazing women when possible. Working together helps to fuel our individual creativity. I am inspired by Kaffe Fassett; specifically, his textile art. I am drawn to his bright, bold color palettes. I love creating my quilts, most of which are given as gifts to family and friends. As a member of Putnam Arts Council, Joyce Picone encouraged me to enter one of my quilts in an exhibit, stating that “of course your quilts are an art”. I am honored to be chosen as this month’s Featured Artist.
