Start the day off by painting in an open studio environment for 2.5 hours, where you will receive personal instruction as well as enjoy conversation and demonstrations. Students can use either oil or acrylic paint. Each person will work on their own painting, at their own pace. Instruction will vary according to skill level, and will include choosing an image, lessons in observation, composition, light and contrast, color, and mixing and applying paint. The differences between oil and acrylic, the use and care of tools and materials, which brush to use, how to use mediums, and discussing painting surfaces, styles and techniques will all be covered. A suggested materials list is available on the website. Bring what you have and we will discuss materials on day one. Also, please bring a few source materials and images to work from for the first class.
