This class will function as an Open Studio with instruction, where each student will work on their own painting at their own pace, and will participate in the class discussions and demonstrations as a group. For greater flexibility, students are free to arrive and leave as they wish during open studio time. In addition to the usual class lessons about the use and care of materials and tools, and lessons in color, blending and applying paint, there will also be more focused lessons in each class about the uses of different brushes, the variations of paint qualities, creating the best composition , capturing the light in the painting, using mediums and extenders with your paint, learning how to see your own work, putting expression and feeling into the work, and discussions about the work as it relates to the work of established artists and art history. Each student should come to class with a few source materials that they would like to paint. A materials list is available online. Easels are provided.
