Beginner to Intermediate
This class is designed to introduce beginners to traditional hand building, wheel throwing, and sculptural techniques. Our goal will be to create useful unique objects that explore a variety of decorating and glazing techniques. Students will gain a broad understanding about the properties of clay. No experience necessary. Karen uses students’ collective knowledge to foster community and learning. Clay and firing fees are separate. A 25 lb. bag of new stoneware (white or brown) clay costs $15. Glaze/Firing fees are 3 cents per cubic inch and are due on the final class. Clay classes are designed for beginner to intermediate potters. Students will explore traditional throwing (potter’s wheel), hand building, and sculptural techniques. Our goal will be to create well-crafted, aesthetically pleasing objects that explore a variety of decorating and glazing techniques. Students will learn traditional and contemporary methods. Sign up early…Space is limited. If you do not have your own tools, the studio will loan tools to each student. Tools will be packaged and used only by that student throughout the semester. Similarly, clay cannot be shared and the cost is $15 per bag. Glaze/firing fee is 3 cents per cubic inch.
Note: Wear an old shirt and pants that you wouldn’t mind getting a little dirty.
