The term throwing describes creating pottery forms with the use of the potter’s wheel. The goal of this class will be to allow each and every student the opportunity to develop good solid throwing skills. The class will focus on the fundamentals of throwing. Students will be shown how to create well thrown cylinders. The cylinder is the base form for about ninety percent of all thrown forms which include: vases, drinking vessels, pitchers and jars. Glazing and textural surfaces will also be explored to enhance the aesthetic nature of the work. The main focus of this class will be to create well crafted, aesthetically pleasing objects. Practice, exploration of new ideas and experimentation will also be encouraged. Prior knowledge of the ceramic process is helpful but not necessary.
